The first award was given in 1995 to Professor Howard H. Rosenbrock. The second receiver is Professor Karl Johan Astrom from Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden. The award was presented to Professor Astrom on 13 January 1997 during the 7th Nordic Process Control Workshop held at Wadahl Hotel in the mountains around Lillehammer in Norway. The title of his award lecture was "Adventures in process control: From system identification to automatic tuning". The award, consisting of a travel grant and a Diploma, is awarded by the Nordic Working Group on Process Control.
