477a Fluid Mechanics and Transport Processes: From Colloid Science to Small Devices

Howard Stone, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University, 40 Oxford St., Rm 224, Cambridge, MA 02138

We discuss recent themes in fluid mechanics of small-scale systems, ranging from multiphase flows in small devices to wetting of topographically and chemically patterned substrates. The ideas span basic fluid dynamics of confined systems to new applications inspired by the design of new kinds of materials.
