Chemical Engineering has played a key role in the development and operation of nuclear fuel cycle technologies at the Idaho National Laboratory over the past 50+ years. The history of these activities will be detailed with a focus on nuclear fuel reprocessing and waste management. A significant effort in the development of nuclear fuel cycle technologies (aqueous and electrochemical separations) is currently in progress as part of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership and these activities will be detailed. The promising future for chemical engineering at the INL as the nation's nuclear energy laboratory will also be described.
