The seminal contributions to fluid mixing technology, with respect to both research and application, contributed from 1965 to 1985, will be reviewed and discussed. An overview of how these works have influenced current academic infrastructure and industrial practice will be provided. The contributions that continue to guide future trends will be given the most emphasis.
