This paper presents recent studies of power consumption in mixing tanks stirred by anchor impellers with the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The CFX 11.0 commercial package from ANSYS Corporation has been used to generate the numerical results of the model. The model geometries shown in this paper reproduce closely real systems, which is very important to capture reliable and detailed information from the system. The objective is to propose changes to improve the mixing process which use anchor impellers. Two different configurations of anchor impeller blades are used: 1 - straight blade and 2 - blade made out of a circular tube.

The CFD model of both geometries were compared and the results for one of the geometries was compared with published experimental data for power consumption and the results were very close.
