Mixing plays a critical role in nearly every chemical process, and continues to provide challenging problems for chemical engineers to solve. Dr. James Oldshue made his indelible mark on society through his work in these technologies. His ability to develop solutions helped set the industry definition of mixing innovation. We'll look at some recent mixing problems faced by UOP to illustrate the breadth of issues encountered in industry today and introduce some of the novel approaches our engineers are using.

As we enter AIChE's second century, the workplace is becoming more globalized and the demographics of our profession are changing rapidly. These trends create cultural mixing challenges that can test even the most innovative managers and leaders. UOP has a long history of collaborating with international customers and partners, as well as bringing together scientists and engineers from around the world to work together to develop new technologies. We'll look at some examples of business practices that promote this cultural and societal mixing.
