Closing the loop: an industrialist’s perspective
on the present and future impact of control

.

Abstract:
This lecture aims at characterizing both status quo and future potentials of automatic control in industry. From the background of a power and automation industry professional, industrial deployment of advanced estimation, control and optimization methods is discussed using practical examples.
As new impulses and challenges for control arise from neighboring disciplines, interdependency and the need for collaborating with neighboring disciplines is emphasized and a number of directions for future work are outlined.
