Abstract

Two adaptive feedback control methods, an automatically tuned PI-controller and the extremum-seeking controller are employed to control a detached flow with strictly non-linear dynamics. For the experimental validation conducted in a wind tunnel a simple flow configuration, a backward-facing step, is investigated. The experiments confirm that the presented control strategy can be used successfully to regulate this type of flow, and thus, to reduce the negative concomitant effects of the separation.
