Abstract

This paper presents a Petri net-based method for deadlock control in flexible assembly systems (FAS). Instead of process-oriented modeling method, resource-oriented Petri nets are used. A new control policy is thus formulated and proved to outperform the existing one in the literature. The deadlock problem in FAS is often more difficult since deadlock can arise from improper base component flow and part flow, as well as ill-synchronized assembly operations.
